Mary Ellen McLaughlin

Mary Ellen McLaughlin, age 82 of Troy, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021 in the inpatient unit of Hospice of Miami County. She was born September 5, 1938 in Troy to the late Raymond and Della (Plantz) Garman.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Donald L. “Sarge” McLaughlin, who passed on August 28, 2020. She was also preceded in death by brothers Robert “Bob” Garman and William “Bill” Garman, and sister Betty Garman.

Those left to cherish Mary’s memory include her daughters: Valeria McLaughlin of Tipp City, Donielle McLaughlin of Troy, Doris Janzen of Virginia Beach, VA, and Marla Allen Batista of Los Angeles, CA; sisters Carol McDonald (Bill) of Troy and Carla Garman of Troy; grandchildren: Haley, Damon, Josh, Shandelynn, Jessica, and Shane; great-grandchildren: Desmond, Marla, Ethan, Natal, and Sage; and sister-in-law Sandy Garman of Troy.

Mary was a 1957 graduate of Troy High School. She worked various jobs in the Troy area and was known for her time at Meijer working food samples, her 18 years at the snack bar at Miami Shores Golf Course, K’s Hamburgers, and Auto Lube. She was an avid Bingo player and cherished her lunch dates with her girlfriends from high school. She was a watcher of soap operas, game shows, and loved her OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. Most importantly, she adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 6:00PM Monday, April 26, 2021 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor David Thomasson officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-6:00PM at the funeral home. Donations in Mary’s memory can be given to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Miami County.
