Douglas Eugene “Doug” Heaton, age 93 of Troy, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 at his residence. He was born August 3, 1928 in Troy to the late Gerald and Golda “Goldie” (nee Burnside) Heaton.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson Landon Otto and son-in-law Gary Hillman
Those left to cherish Doug’s memory include his wife Carol (nee Allread) Heaton, whom he married November 12, 1955; daughter Melanie Hillman of Surprise, AZ, son Steve Heaton (Lisa) of Cincinnati, daughter Bonnie (nee Heaton) Taylor (Larry) of Fletcher, and daughter Connie (nee Heaton) Veach (Frank) of Casstown; six grandchildren: Brian and Brock Hillman, Christopher Heaton, Jennifer Heaton Otto, Holly Veach Snyder, and Cody Veach; 13 great-grandchildren: Darian, Damian, Darcy, and Patrick Hillman, Hannah, Heidi, Hope, and Harvey Heaton, Zach, Jacob, and Mallory Otto, and Sofia and Jack Snyder.
Doug proudly served his country in the US Army from 1950-1952. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Troy. He retired as Plant Foreman from the Hobart Corporation Headquarters in 1989 after many years of service. Doug was also a member of Troy Senior Citizens, a life member of both Troy Fish and Game and AmVets Post #88, Troy, a member of VFW Post #5436, Troy, a life member of BPOE Elks #833, Troy, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1297, Tide and Shores, FL. He was also a dedicated member of Franklin Lodge #14 F+AM, Troy, Miami County Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and the Antioch Temple Shrine of Dayton. Doug loved to golf, fish, and play pool. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV, hunting, and bowling. Most importantly, Doug enjoyed spending time with his family.
A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Lauren Allen officiating. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with military honors by the Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard of Troy. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-7:00PM Wednesday, September 29 at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will follow at 7:00PM and a Scottish Rite Ring Service will follow at 7:15PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the National MS Society, Ohio Valley, Fountain Pointe, 4665 Cornell Rd. Suite #170, Cincinnati, OH 45241 or Hospice of Miami County: 3230 N. Co. Rd. 25A, Troy, OH 45373.
