Harry Taylor Jackson

October 2, 1919 ~ March 14, 2019 (age 99)

Harry Taylor Jackson was born in Columbus Ohio on October 2, 1919. He passed away in his home surrounded by his loving daughters on March 14, 2019 at the age of 99.

After high school, he moved to Troy to stay with his Aunt Grace and Uncle Perlema Sewell.  He went on to work for companies such as Miami County Courthouse, DP&L and several other part time jobs.  He worked as many as 5 jobs at one time while his means of transportation was either walking or riding a bike.

He went on to marry Mary Jane Harger from Sidney In June 1943.  They had 3 daughters, Sondra Simpson, Phyllis Warfield & Darlene Jackson. The family resided on Cedar Street in the early years where he picked up gardening.  He enjoyed it so much, he created a backyard garden which also served as a means of extra income. The children would help to sell some of the vegetables to the wealthier section of Troy in their little red wagon.  Landscaping also became a huge interest of his as he kept the best looking yard in town.  Plush grass, perfectly trimmed hedges made his yard the envy of the neighborhood.

He professionally sang classical and spiritual music at churches and events in the area.  Harry loved to sing.  It was common to find him singing along with the radio in the early hours of the morning as Mary Jane pleaded, hush you’ll wake the kids. Harry responded, it’s alright they will just think it’s the radio.

Many of Harry’s family were artists, including himself.  Some of his paintings are displayed in his home and also at Darlene’s home in Florida.  His mother was a published poet and he could recite many of her poems into his late years.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Harger - Jackson, Sisters Marry Ann Ryan, Emily Jackson and Brother John David Jackson.  He also leaves behind to cherish his memory, Daughters Sondra Simpson, son-in-law Stanley Simpson, Phyllis Warfield, Darlene Jackson.  Grandchildren, Michael Warfield, Deneen (Tyrone) Callahan, Terrasa Warfield, Mehari (Monique) Warfield, Mary (Wesley) Pryor, Deanna Ellis and host of Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren, Family & Friends.

He was a devoted member of Richards Chapel for many years, loved the Lord and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
