Samuel Bryan “Skip” Melvin, Jr. age 66 of Troy, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his home. He was born November 30, 1957 in Portsmouth to the late Samuel Melvin, Sr. and Janet (Newman) Melvin.
Those left to cherish Skip’s memory include his sons Caleb Melvin of Tipp City and Shawn (Jody) Gregory of Pittsburgh, PA; the mother of his children Karen Gregory Melvin of Troy; grandson Weylan Gregory; as well as siblings Patricia Melvin of Maryland, Sandy Melvin Gillespie of Troy, Michael (Ena) Melvin of Bradford, and Charles “Chuck” Melvin of Sidney; seven nieces and two nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews; and special friends Bruce Radimachir, Tom Williamson, and Becky Clark.
Skip was a 1976 graduate of Troy High School. He received a full football scholarship to Salem University in West Virginia, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business in 1980. Skip had a competitive streak and was an avid sportsman, football, baseball, and basketball were his passions. He also enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of Troy Eagles #971 and was a US Army veteran. Skip held numerous sales jobs throughout his life and worked as a truck driver.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy. Visitation will be held from 11:00AM-1:00PM prior to the service. A dinner will follow the service at the Troy Eagles #971.
