Byron “Joe” Getter, Jr. age 89 of Tipp City, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024 at his home. He was born March 15, 1934 in Vernon County, Wisconsin to the late Byron Getter, Sr. and Gloy (Randles) Getter.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter Bessie Ann Getter; brothers Malcolm Getter, Eddie Getter, and Basil Getter; sisters Alice Swiggum, Sharon Springer, and Marilyn Demro
Those left to cherish Joe’s memory include his wife of 70 years Bessie (Osborne) Getter; daughter Linda Getter Hewitt Lyles of Troy; son Ronald Joe (Ame) Getter of Troy; grandchildren Tonia (Rocki) Emerick, Dallas (Jennie) Hewitt, Huston (Emma) Hewitt, Tasha Hewitt, Jessica Young, Kaleb (Nicole) Getter, and Gracelyn Getter; Konor, Kooper, Kinzlee, Beau, Shai, and 14 other great-grandchildren and two (almost three) great-great-grandchildren; as well as sister Rose Vanchena of Readstown, WI.
Joe was an avid gardener and was known for his Kentucky Big Boys and sauerkraut. His innovative mind was one of a kind, engineering many things for the Packin House such as the Go-Getter Belly Shaver, Rail Switch and Index Finger. He worked hard his whole life, retiring from Wolverine after 25 years of service.
A funeral service will be held 12:00PM Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Bonita Ritchie officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00AM-12:00PM prior to the service. Interment will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Friends and family are invited to gather 2:30PM at the Troy Fish and Game, where he was a 55 year member.
